The quiet lounge, flooded with natural light from panoramic windows, affords views of the large 35,000-square-metre hotel park and the Roseg Glacier. Fresh-air fans appreciate the direct park access. The Sarazenen Spa – a modern interpretation of the hammam

Located in the historic vaulted cellar, the Sarazenen Spa is a modern interpretation of the hammam and the renaissance of the classic bathing scene. It combines a sociable atmosphere with wellbeing, rejuvenation and health benefits. The rhassoul treatment involves applying a poultice containing three different kinds of healing mud to the body – an over 1000-year-old oriental steam-enhanced ritual that purifies, nourishes and soothes the skin.

The Saracens – a look back in time

The oriental-themed Sarazenen Spa is a perfect fit for the Hotel Saratz: a glance back to bygone days reveals the Saratz family's connections to the Orient. Their roots go back to the Saracens, an Arab people who came from North Africa around 900 BC, travelling via Spain and over the Alps. An old bridge in today's Pontresina was built by the Saracens and was called Pontem Sarasinam, which over the centuries has developed into today’s Romansh name of Puntraschigna, or Pontresina. Today, the Saratz family are regarded as the founders of the Engadine resort.

Saunas at the Saratz

Boost your immune system

"Women are most beautiful after the sauna." What the Finns have always known also holds true for the Engadine – and it doesn't just apply to the ladies. Experience the cleansing effect of our saunas and let your body and mind reap the benefits. Regular sauna sessions are known to boost the immune system, enhance wellbeing and have beneficial effects on the skin. Our classic wooden saunas are heated to 70°C, the steam bath to 40°C. After the sauna, multi-sensory massage showers, a plunge pool and an ice fountain provide welcome refreshment. Then guests are welcome to withdraw to our quiet lounge, where complimentary fresh fruit and tea are available.
