Polo World Cup on Snow

Dusting horses, a cosmopolitan audience and a breathtaking backdrop: the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz.

What began more than 30 years ago in St. Moritz created a worldwide trend. Snow polo is now played in the American Aspen, Cortina in Italy and Chinese Tanjin.

The original in St. Moritz is still the internationally most prestigious and highly remunerated winter polo tournament on snow.

Olympic Bobrun St. Moritz Celerina

The St. Moritz - Celerina bobsleigh run was opened in 1904. This makes the ice channel in the Upper Engadine the oldest bobsleigh run in the world and the last remaining natural ice track on earth. The other tracks in Europe, North America and Japan all have to be artificially iced because they are not located at such climatically advantageous altitudes.

Would you, once in a lifetime, like to race down the ice channel at over 100 Kmh? Book your trip here! http://www.olympia-bobrun.ch

Engadine Ski Marathon

The Engadine Ski Marathon is not only one of the most important mass sports events in the country, but also a popular meeting place for the assembled world elite. The "Engadiner" is the largest cross-country skiing event in Switzerland and a Worldlopp race. In 1977, the number of participants exceeded the ten-thousand-metre mark for the first time. Since then it has levelled off at around 12,000 to 13,000 participants from around 50 nations.

Every enthusiastic cross-country skier should take part in the Engadin Ski Marathon once a year. It is one of these events that you will never forget. http://www.engadin-skimarathon.ch

Birthplace Of Winter TourismA Winter Fairyland

Diverse winter sports resort

350 km slopes with guaranteed snow, 180 km cross-country trails, 150 km of winter hiking, tobogganing trails, deals curling, ice skating, bobsleigh and Cresta runs, equestrian sports, winter golf, paragliding, kite sailing, cricket and many panoramic restaurants, ski huts and snow bars ensure activities at the most attractive level during the Engadine winter.

The original - since 1864

All this for the past 150 years, as in neighbouring St. Moritz the winter holidays have been invented. The summer tourism was already in full swing, when in autumn of 1864 Johannes Badrutt made a daring bet with four English guests: he waxed enthusiastically about the sunny, pleasant winter days and promised them that they could enjoy being on his terrace in their shirtsleeves during this period. His guests, familiar with the cold, damp English winter, could not begin to imagine that it could be different in the Swiss Alps. Johannes Badrutt offered to pay their travel expenses if he should prove to be wrong.

We now know that the pioneer won his bet; the guests were astonished by the sunny weather and the majestic winter landscape. His British guests didn't depart until springtime, replete with suntans, and enthusiastically recounted their Alpine winter experience at the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz to friends back home. The start of the winter sports in the Alps was born.
