Hotel S – a success story returns

The "Hotel S" concept launched last year, in the quieter period between the 2019 summer and winter seasons. The idea behind it was to offer guests the opportunity to enjoy the comfort and core services of the hotel at a preferential rate starting from CHF 99.00. Since it proved very popular, we're happy to announce that Hotel S is returning this year from 24.10. to 25.11.2021.

Art and Culture in Engadine

Whether it's works by established artists or up-and-coming talent: art takes pride of place at the Saratz. Seasonally changing exhibitions adorn the spaces in and around the hotel, not only providing a platform for artists to showcase their work, but also enriching our guests' stay with creative and cultural energy. Immerse yourself in a vibrant parallel universe of shapes, colours, techniques and materials.

Exhibition

The exhibition by Andrea Röthlin, Claude Seeberger-Bernhart, Philipp Käppeli and Charlie Lutz lasts from mid-November 2020 to the end of March 2021. It is open to the public and can be visited during the opening hours of the hotel and the restaurants. Art tours are available on request. Pre-registration is required.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Andrea Röthlin

Andrea Röthlin is a lithographer, but not exclusively – she also has a keen interest in traditional printing methods and excels in marrying new and old printing techniques. This willingness to experiment yields a wealth of different results. She combines water, oils, wax and pigments in an interplay of colour, light and shade. Sparseness alternates with density, abundance and reduction, dissolution and accentuation. They provide snapshots of outward perceptions and the inner self. Last but not least, Andrea Röthlin has a playful relationship with language – words made from sheet metal correspond with their surroundings.

Claude Seeberger

Vulnerability, wounds. Trauma. Waking up in a dream where worlds unfold and converge. Sadness and playfulness. Man and beast. Wheel and carriage. Line and surface. Meat and stone. Tree and boat. Claude Seeberger's works are "composed messages of tenderness".  Tenderness as a force against power. Against violence. The translucent is concealed. The concealed is translucent. She is familiar with the darkness and senses the light, liberation and hope with an intensity that is eloquent in its silence. Claude Seeberger's work is deeply influenced by traumatic experiences, contemporary events, barren landscapes, sacred art from Romanesque to early Renaissance and the imagery of votive paintings. She works with acrylic paints on MDF panels of various sizes.

Philipp Käppeli

Philipp Käppeli seeks the essence of his perceptions, which are revealed to him in stripped-down imagery. In his sculptural works, selected finds often serve him as sources of inspiration which he then develops further. Leaving traces in the medium, creating new traces, perceiving the intervening space and consciously interpreting it as part of the whole are elementary components in his working process. It is always the minor, almost imperceptible gestures that interest and move him. Shape over colour, pared back over opulence, strength in silence over noise, and abstraction over figurative depiction are the personal signature that characterise and runs through his work. Philipp Käppeli exhibits sculptures, pictures and photographs.

Charlie Lutz

In his latest work, Charlie Lutz is exploring the medium of acrylic glass, processing the material by milling and then dyeing the fragments, organic shapes and traces in the surface.  The thus processed acrylic glass components serve as support media, are assembled into object-like forms or staged as moments of installation in the environment. Thematically, Charlie Lutz works with seeing and exploring traces, referencing in his fragments the relationship to humans and their surroundings. He asks how we see each other, exploring the fundamental issue of what seeing really means and what we can know when we see: about others, and about ourselves.
